The Tumbleweed Compost Maker is an above ground, free standing tumbling
compost bin. Organic waste is added and the contents tumbled on a
regular basis. Air and moisture is distributed by the tumble action
creating ideal conditions for rapid decomposition. Valuable nutrients
are retained within the bin and do not leach into the soil whilst
vermin are eliminated.
Heavy forking of the contents or complicated layering techniques are
not required. Minimum effort is needed to keep the decomposition
process working. Simply fill the bin with the required materials and
and tumble every couple of days. Optimum size allows young and old to
tumble even when full.
The compost bin comprises of a sturdy, high impact UV treated
polypropylene body on galvanized steel legs. A stainless steel breaker
bar through the centre of the drum assists in the mixing of the
contents. Vented lids each end maintain aeration and allow easy access.

Tumbleweeds unique tumbling action
Aeration of the compost material in the bin is the key to speedy decomposition.
Tumbleweed's unique compost bin rotates around its axis through the
width of the bin. Therefore the contents fall from the top to the
bottom of the bin as it is tumbled and are thoroughly aerated.
The breaker bar across the middle helps to break up the contents as they fall.
Other tumblers rotate around an axis that runs through the length of
the bin. When tumbled the contents roll, resulting in minimal aeration

What to put in the Tumbleweed Compost Bin?
Most organic waste can be composted. The key is to mix 75% lawn
clippings with 25% other materials,eg leaves,vegetable scraps,
tea leaves, fruit peelings, coffee grounds, vacuum dust and
crushed eggshells.
Chopping and shredding larger items speeds up the composting process.
This can easily be done by running the lawn mower over leaves and other
soft garden waste. The more uniform in size the ingredients are, the
quicker the decomposition process.
Unlike other composting methods the Tumbleweed Compost Bin will recycle
100% lawn clippings. No need to add any other ingredients, simply fill
and tumble. Grass cuttings are usually produced in such quantity that
traditional composting methods cannot handle them. Why throw a valuable
recycling resource in the garbage bin when the Tumbleweed tumbler will
turn them into valuable compost?
Where to put the compost bin?
The compost bin should be situated in a sunny position as heat
promotes the composting process.
Site it in an accessible place so that it can be easily tumbled
every few days. Put it near to where you will walk past it on the
way to the car so you can give it a quick turn on your way out!
How long does it take to make compost?
The option is yours!
To produce compost in four weeks almost fill the the compost tumbler
and tumble every two to three days. During summer and the growing
season this is the most commonly used method.
If you do not have sufficient material to initially fill the compost
bin, just keep adding ingredients and tumble the compost bin over a
period of time. It will take a further two weeks to produce compost
after adding the last lot of material. This method is most commonly
used in winter.
The Tumbleweed Compost Bin can produce four loads of compost
for every one produced by traditional methods.
How to use your compost
When your compost is dark brown and "earthy" it is ready to use and may
be dug into the garden or spread as a mulch on the surface.
Digging into the garden improves the soil by adding humus and
attracting worms. It will loosen heavy clay soils and enhance the water
holding capacity of sandy soils in particular. Or you can brew the compost into compost tea using our
