Applications:
Agriculture: The use of compost tea in agriculture dates back thousands of years in
many different cultures. Greek, Egyptian and Mayan agricultural
practices all utilized compost extracts as a means of crop
fertilization and sustainable soil building. Today these same practices
are being implemented again through the use of compost and compost teas
for the same reasons. In addition to soil and plant fertility, compost
teas are also being incorporated into disease suppression programs as
an effective and economical alternative method to standard chemical
approaches.
Landscaping: The use of compost tea in landscaping is the fastest growing market for
the compost tea industry. A wide range of benefits are realized with
the addition of compost tea to existing maintenance programs as well as
new landscape installations. Turf, ornamentals and trees all benefit
greatly from compost tea. Standard pesticide and fertilizer rates can
be reduced, improving environmental conditions without compromising
plant performance and vitality.
Horticulture: The use of compost tea in horticultural applications has a wide range
of benefits. As chemical fungicide and fertilizer costs increase,
compost tea offers an effective and economical alternative method for
quality plant production. Whether used in greenhouse production,
container yards or field planting, compost tea can be incorporated into
existing application programs using foliar sprayers or fertigation
injectors. Introducing the beneficial organisms and organic compounds
contained in compost tea in early stages of plant production helps
ensure plant performance in the landscape.
Application Guidelines:
- Compost tea should be applied throughout the growing
season every 14 to 30 days. This rotation may be increased to every
week during times of plant stress (known disease, environmental stress,
etc).
- Allow 7 days after your last application before harvest.
- The microbes in compost tea are sensitive to UV light and should therefore be applied before 10 AM or after 4 PM.
- During
precipitation, applications to the soil should be made during light
rains only. Foliar applications should be avoided during any type of
precipitation.
